Prioritizing Time With Students in Live Class Sessions

What are the classroom activities that can not be easily (or even possibly) taken up through remote / virtual work?
What work can be taken up remotely / asynchronously in some capacity (even if this context is not ideal)?
In order to get prioritized work done in class, are there preparations students can make in advance to save time when you do physically meet?
Is attendance optional? If a student misses a class session, what are the options for making up / catching up on work?

Introducing Course Activities in a HyFlex Class Session

Start by engaging with online students; think about the need to stay in view / range of camera and microphone and to let these students know that you value their presence and engagement
Use Zoom screenshare at the start of class, opening up the Canvas site to show all students where an overview of today's class session can be found. If you don't like screenshare, you may consider sharing a link in the Zoom chat to relevant pages; however, we find that a brief screenshare can help students focus on immediate tasks and solidify the relationship between Canvas content and content covered in live class sessions
Establish communication avenues for both sets of students and stopping to check in with each group
Identify kinds of class activities that work in this format and when asynchronous or Zoom work is preferable
