BSB Mentor Program

Mentor a Viking

Established in 2016 by the Bertolon School of Business, Salem State career services and the alumni association, the Mentor a Viking program is designed to bring Salem State University Bertolon School of Business (BSB) sophomore students together with BSB alumni for a one-day or multi-day job shadowing experience that allows students to explore and gain insight about their desired profession.

Through observation and conversation, participating students have the opportunity to learn more about professions, receive career-related advice and reflect on the ways in which their education can prepare them for life after graduation.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

Before registering with Mentor a Viking, students will be required to complete an orientation process to get them ready for their shadowing experience. The orientation will include resume critique and business etiquette.

ALUMNI (HOST) EXPECTATIONS

Alumni hosts are expected to introduce their profession, industry and/or organization; provide a tour of the workplace; answer questions; and most importantly, allow a student to observe your daily routine. Some hosts choose to arrange meetings or informational interviews between the student and other professionals; others engage the student in a project. Participating alumni cannot work from home and must work in a professional work environment.
