Sociological theory is a fundamental, core class in the field because it helps you to understand how important the way we look at social phenomenon is.  In this class we will explore classical theorists such as Comte, Durkheim and Marx.  Theory provides a conceptual framework for us to analyze social situations and interactions.  Most people rely upon theories to guide their basic assumptions without ever realizing that they are  using theory.  In this class you will learn to discipline your thinking so you understand what you think is true, why you believe it, and alternatives to consider.  

Theory is a very cool class.  Be prepared to think hard and write lots!
