FRAMING FOR OUR THINKING

This week you are reading about Social Inequality and Social Stratification.

What does it mean for people to have equal access to resources? What kinds of resources are we referring to (education, wealth, healthcare, housing, social networks, power, etc.)? How easy is it to obtain these resources? Is access truly equal for everyone?

Many people believe that hard work alone determines success. However, social inequality exposes the structural barriers that shape opportunities in ways we do not always see. These barriers are larger than any one individual.

How do these readings illustrate structural forces at work in everyday life?

How can we achieve Equity and Justice? What will it take to get rid of the fence( barrier) so everyone can see the game?

QUESTION FOR THIS COURSE: Reality, Equality, Equity, Justice - Does everywhere has access? What do those words/actions mean? Why are there barriers up? Is just about working hard to overcome those barriers?
