Each week, you will write a 300-word reflection paper that explores your personal thoughts and responses to the ideas covered that week. The purpose of the reflection papers is to document your thinking throughout the course, to discuss idea and concepts that you find challenging, to think through how the ideas we discussed are relevant to your teaching, and to express your concerns about culturally responsive teaching.
Note: you do not have to answer every question in the prompt - these are just to get you thinking. And if you'd like to write on a topic not mentioned below, that's fine too as long as it touches on one (or both) of the themes of the week (social class and religion).
Taking into account our reading for this week, how do you see your own social class background (both how you were raised and your current one) playing a role in your work as a teacher? If you are teaching (or want to teach) in a district where students' background are dissimilar to your own, what do you need to take into account when you are teaching or are engaging with students and parents? If you are teaching (or want to teach) in a district where students' backgrounds are similar to yours, why were you drawn to the district? What are your concerns about the role of social class in teaching? What can you, as a teacher, do to start addressing some of your concerns?
