Background
Complete this assignment only after reviewing all materials provided in module 7.
Purpose
- Demonstrate course policies that promote behaviors consistent with deep, persistent learning
- Align course policies with your stated teaching philosophy
- Connect grading policies to learning objectives and desired student behaviors
Task
Write the grading policy for your course. Describe how the grading policy reflects your new teaching statement. Describe in detail the major assignments for your course. In other words, write instructions for your assignment that would provide a student enough information to complete an assignment you would want to read. Describe how the assignments reflect your teaching philosophy and how the assignments will facilitate the type of student learning behaviors you would like to see in your course. Note: By learning behaviors I do not mean "course learning objectives". I mean how students approach completing the work and learning the material.
Steps
- Complete the teaching philosophy assignment
- Describe your grading policy. How do you determine a student's final grade for the course (what assignments and online activities determine the grade)?
- Compare and contrast your teaching statement to your grading policy. How does the grading policy reflect your teaching statement? Write at least 150 words.
- Write out your major course assignments (3 biggest assignments or those worth at least 15% of the grade each) with enough detail that a student could complete the assignment.
- Describe how the major assignments support your teaching philosophy and facilitate the types of learning behaviors you would like to build/enforce in students.
- Submit the above as an MS Word Doc to this area.
