The Digital Geography Lab (DGL) at Salem State University is a unique departmental facility dedicated to supporting undergraduate and graduate geo-spatial computing education and research. The lab enables teamwork within the department and is a focal point for faculty, undergraduate and graduate research dedicated to serving and supporting students. The DGL supports the department's programs with specialized software .

DGL Access and Use - Fall 2024

By using the lab computers, you are consenting to the acceptance DGL Acceptable Use Policy & Username Agreement shown below. Violations of the below policy will result in revocation of DGL privileges, which may prevent you from completing your course or coursework.

Lab hours are posted on the Hours page on this site. If you have a Gmail account you can add the DGL calendar to your personal calendar for easy access (you can toggle it off/on as needed). This will give you a good overview as to when the lab computers and lab techs are available.

DGL Acceptable Use Policy & Username Agreement

As a user of the DGL, I understand that I am responsible for my computing activity and actions carried out while using the DGL and its resources.

By using the Digital Geography Lab (DGL) the user accepts the following terms and conditions:

1. User(s) must be able to provide verification of SSU enrollment or employment for computer account(s).
2. The username is not transferable. Its usage is to be confined to the person(s) listed in the class's Acceptable Use Policy & Username Agreement (see your professor for a copy).
3. The following constitute grounds for immediate termination of access privileges:
  1. Any usage of computer resources for activities other than those identified on the agreement.
  2. Any profanity/harassment used on the computer, or within the confines of the DGL
4. The following constitute grounds for immediate termination of access privileges as well as appropriate legal action:
  1. Any attempt to interrupt, abuse or damage DGL hardware through either authorized or unauthorized access.
  2. Any attempt to access/acquire information stored on a DGL system other than that declared as public information or a user's own stored information shall constitute a violation of the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts regarding the privacy of information.
  3. The copying/removal/destruction of any of the DGL's computer manuals, software, or hardware.
5. Information stored in the computer in connection with the use permitted by this agreement is not private information. The DGL reserves the right to have access to such information for any purposes it deems appropriate and the DGL provides no assurance that the information will be secure against either authorized or unauthorized access by others, or system corruption.
6. The applicant accepts and is responsible for adhering to the SSU SalemNet Acceptable Use Policy.
